Martha Reynolds

In 1949 I was born into an artistic family so there was never any question that I would be an artist.  Now retired I am able to more fully concentrate on creating my art.

I work in various media -- whichever I feel I need to tell the "story."  I graduated cum laude from Shepherd College in Shepherdstown, W.Va., with a degree in art and in addition have spent several years studying bronze casting through WVU.

I spent over 2 decades developing decorative designs for glass -- first at Harvey Industries in Salem, W.Va., (a lamp and lighting glass manufacturer) and later at Fenton Art Glass in Williamstown, W.Va., where I was a decorator, a designer and last as Director of Decorating Design.

Not being satisfied with "doing it the way its always been done," I developed new methods for decorating glass, and also rediscovered techniques that were used but forgotten. I continue to paint and sandcarve custom-order glass designs for customers all across the United States. My designs have received over a dozen awards in glass, including a best in show from the Society of Glass and Ceramic Decorators and the Collectible of the Year from the National Association of Limited Edition Dealers.  In addition to glass I have been awarded honorable mentions in watercolor and colored pencil.

I have returned "home" to rural Doddridge County where my husband and I have spent several years converting an old post and beam barn into our home and studio.  (A romantic notion but extremely challenging!)  Outside I have the beauty of the natural world as constant inspiration.  Gardening is a favorite pastime and I have turned the old barn lot into an acre of flowering beds, fruit trees, and flowers.
